RATS by Israel Horovitz
A rare example of an early play by American playwright, Israel Horovitz. An excellent example of experimental Non-representational theatre, this production has been restaged for video. Two “rats” fight for survival and control in a baby’s crib in a ghetto apartment in the city. The lessons learned apply to all of us in the hectic cutthroat world of today. Written 1969, Video Produced 2006, 25 mins.

SOAP OPERA by Ralph Pape
Pape’s elegant language creates three wonderfully intriguing characters in this psychological masterpiece. Through a series of twelve monologues the audience learns of this convoluted love triangle and its dramatically powerful conclusion. This video adaptation “opens up” the sparseness of the theatrical script with visual flashbacks and powerful background music and sound. Written 1983, Video Produced 1991, 53 mins.

OUR LITTLE TRIP
by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Ferlingetti’s best known as a “beat poet” of the 1960’s. This is possibly the only video adaptation of one of his avant garde plays. Two characters in a bizarre, controlled, theatrical world unwind and wind while being interviewed as they make their cocoon-like little trip through this highly stylized world. Written 1964, Video Produced 1989, 12 mins.

Israel Horovitz - playwright, screenwriter, director - has written over 70 plays, several of which have been translated into as many as 30 languages and performed worldwide. His play Line is now in it’s 39th year of continuous performance off-Broadway. He is Founding Artistic Director of Gloucester Stage Company, and of the New York Playwrights Lab. He teaches a bilingual screenwriting workshop with writers from la Fémis, France's national film school, and Columbia University's graduate film program. Lawrence Ferlinghetti: A prominent voice of the wide-open poetry movement that began in the 1950s, Ferlinghetti has written poetry, translation, fiction, theater, art criticism, film narration, and essays. Often concerned with politics and social issues, Ferlinghetti's poetry countered the literary elite's definition of art and the artist's role in the world. Though imbued with the commonplace, his poetry cannot be simply described as polemic or personal protest, for it stands on his craftsmanship, thematics, and grounding in tradition. Ralph Pape: Ralph Pape is an American playwright best known for Say Goodnight, Gracie (1978), Soap Opera (1984) and Hearts Beating Faster (1997). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Pape)
