Performance by "living national treasure" Kabuki actor Baiko VII of a famous 18th Century Kabuki dance based on a Noh drama about a simple girl who loves a court noble, a poet, during his exile to a remote island, and her subsequent abandonment.

Baiko also grants a rare interview, explains his art and the origin of the dance he performs and gives notes on technique to his son, also an actor in Kabuki theatre.

Onoe Kikugorō V was a Japanese Kabuki actor, one of the three most famous and celebrated of the Meiji period, along with Ichikawa Danjūrō IX and Ichikawa Sadanji I. Faubion Bowers was a noted academic and writer in the area of Asian Studies, especially Japanese theatre. He also wrote the first full-length biography of Russian composer Alexander Scriabin.
