Socially Conscious - “educating imagination”

As a worldwide organisation, Contemporary Arts Media (CAM) is committed to actively engaging with social and environmental issues on a global scale.

Culture and arts play a significant role in society as a universal platform for social awareness and for cultural, social and individual identity formation. By producing, sourcing and distributing arts related resources to educational libraries CAM’s mission is to contribute to educating “citizens”,  people who are active, dynamic and creative members of their communities while preserving compassion and understanding of needs of others. 

Promoting Education
CAM is proudly associated with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and agrees wholeheartedly with the high value arts has in education.

CAM believes that good quality arts education is an essential component of holistic education, both formal and informal, because it

• enhances self esteem, a sense of identity, unity and diversity,
• improves the ability to handle change in a dynamic society,
• encourages an appreciation and understanding of heritage,
• enables the creation of future heritage, design and production,
• increases individuals’ potential to make a living, be more creative in the workplace and improve achievements in other spheres of life,
• encourages freedom of expression and enriches the child’s creative and imaginative self, and
• improves linguistic skills and stimulates social responsibility and spiritual growth.

Promoting Artists
CAM directly supports artists by assisting with production resources, networking to kick-start projects, marketing artist made films to a local and worldwide audience, and providing an additional income to artists through the payment of royalties.

Nurturing Culture
By co-producing and promoting products with high cultural significance but low commercial value, CAM ensures students and educators worldwide have access to a wide variety of culturally diverse resources.

Donations
CAM often donates educational resources to schools and arts education organisations in developing countries and those with limited arts education funding.

Supporting Community
CAM actively sources and produces films that showcase and promote the inclusion of disadvantaged groups within community through arts projects.

 Environment
CAM understands and respects the significant role the environment in the welfare of present and future generations and is committed to promoting environmental consciousness through its products and environmentally friendly business operation. By conducting almost all business by electronic means, CAM aspires to making as many of its business practises paperless as possible.

Annual Catalogues
Printing for the annual catalogue mail-out is conducted by Kosdown Printing Company in the most environmentally friendly manner available. Kosdown Printing Company are committed to environmentally sustainable practices, have been awarded for their environmental practices and are fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - (Read More). CAM also works hard to reduce catalogue size minimizing paper usage and energy consumption before mailing the catalogues worldwide in recyclable postage bags.

Online Marketing
CAM is focused on developing effective online marketing to reduce and ideally replace the current requirement for printed catalogue production.

Administration & Office Practises
CAM takes the following initiative to remain as environmentally friendly as possible:

• All financial transactions are encouraged to take place electronically.
• In-house printing is conducted exclusively on recycled paper and waste is reduced by double-sided printing.
• All office paper products are recycled and packaging materials are reused.
• Energy-saving light bulbs are used exclusively.

…….and even an organic ‘vegie patch’ is being developed to support office lunches!
